I currently work as a spiritual counselor and hypnotherapist with a private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Holding degrees from the University of Notre Dame (B.A.), Xavier University (M.Ed.), and Texas A&M University – Commerce (doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology), I began my career as a clinical psychologist in 1977. It was in the early 1980’s that I first received training in hypnotherapy, which in part led me to specialize in the treatment of dissociative disorders. I worked with clients suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder (currently referred to as Dissociative Identity Disorder), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and the dissociative effects of childhood abuse. The turning point in my career came in 1987, when I met Katharine Barr. Ms. Barr was a channel to a spirit entity named Gerod. Gerod said he was a soul, created at the same time as all souls. He said he was designated from the beginning to be a guide and beacon for those souls incarnating. Gerod also claimed the ability to ‘read’ other souls in present time, giving information and insight into a person’s healing at the psychic and spirit levels. After several months of exploratory sessions with Katharine and Gerod, I established a clinical collaboration with Gerod using his insight in the treatment of clients. The collaboration continued for over 13 years and involved over 650 dialogues with Gerod and work with several hundred clients. In addition to helping clients on an individual level, this collaboration led to an unprecedented mapping of psychic and spirit dimensions of the self. It resulted also in a method of healing that allows people to access and work on both the psychic and spirit levels when necessary. I call this approach Soul-Centered Healing. It recognizes each person as a soul, a being of Light, who comes into each life with a soul history and a blueprint for the present lifetime. Soul-Centered Healing does not dismiss the validity and importance of what we currently know about the physical, emotional, and psychological levels of an individual. Rather, it expands this framework and vision to include the psychic and spirit dimensions of a person as well. In my current practice, I offer spiritual counseling and hypnotherapy to individuals and couples who wish to, or need to, address these psychic and spiritual dimensions in their own healing process. I have also recently completed a manuscript telling the story of my collaboration with Gerod and the clinical inquiry into the psychic and spirit dimensions of the self and soul. Besides telling the reader about Soul-Centered Healing, I hope that the book and this website are helpful to others as our society and culture transition into a new paradigm and a new way of seeing. It is a paradigm, I believe, that will recognize the psychic and spirit dimensions of the self and reality. I join with the voices of others who are calling for the official acknowledgment that we are all spiritual beings. I believe that there is overwhelming evidence that speaks to the existence of these realities, and that the denial of their existence makes it impossible to have a unified vision of ourselves as spiritual beings and souls incarnate. To publicly recognize all people as souls is to begin treating all people as souls. |
